U.S. Army Model 1903 Officer’s Saber with Scabbard

This is an original Model 1903 U.S. Army Officer’s Saber, a fine example of the regulation dress sword carried by American officers in the early 20th century.

  • Blade: Bright steel, single-edged with etched floral and patriotic motifs including the spread-winged American eagle. The etching remains visible along most of the blade, with some areas of age-related darkening.

  • Maker’s Mark: Ricasso bears the Solingen “Star of David” proof mark with brass inset, identifying German manufacture for the U.S. market — a hallmark of high-quality officer’s swords of this era.

  • Guard & Grip: Brass half-basket guard with pierced design, paired with a finger-grooved grip for secure handling. Patina present consistent with age.

  • Scabbard: Original steel scabbard with twin suspension rings. Shows honest wear, light pitting, and surface age spots, but remains structurally sound.

Historical Significance

The M1903 Officer’s Saber was introduced to replace the heavier Model 1860 and became a regulation dress and ceremonial sword for U.S. Army officers through both World Wars. Its elegant design and etched motifs make it highly collectible for both military historians and edged weapon enthusiasts.

Condition

Overall very good for its age: blade etching visible, hilt solid, scabbard complete. Some pitting and finish wear are present, adding character and authenticity.
