Imperial German Prussian Infantry Officer’s Degen (Model 1889) with Scabbard

This is an authentic Prussian Infantry Officer’s Degen (IOD89), the regulation sidearm carried by officers of the Imperial German Army from 1889 through World War I.

  • Blade: 36.5" straight, double-fullered, spear-point blade with light decorative etching. Marked on the ricasso with maker’s stamp (Solingen).

  • Hilt: Gilt brass guard with the iconic openwork crowned Prussian eagle. The guard retains an attractive patina, giving it strong antique character.

  • Grip: Original ray-skin grip bound with twisted brass wire, showing age wear but still intact.

  • Scabbard: Steel service scabbard with twin suspension rings, blackened finish with even patina from age.

Condition

Blade is in solid condition with light patina and etching visible. Hilt shows honest wear with good detail to the eagle. Grip shows some handling wear but wire binding remains tight. Scabbard is complete and free of major dents, with finish wear consistent with service age.

Summary

A very fine and complete example of an Imperial German Infantry Officer’s Sword (Model 1889), carried by Prussian officers throughout WWI. With its straight etched blade, eagle-guard hilt, and service scabbard, this piece is an excellent addition for collectors of German militaria, edged weapons, and WWI artifacts.
