19th Century Continental European Dirk / Short Hanger with Brass Hilt & Scabbard
Description
Offered for sale is an authentic 19th-century continental European dirk (short hanger), dating approximately 1830–1870. This is a genuine antique sidearm.
The weapon features a straight, narrow single-edged blade, a solid brass cross-guard and pommel, and a wood-inset grip panel secured by its original period flat-head screw—a correct and commonly seen construction method on mid-19th-century continental European arms, particularly utilitarian military, militia, and civil service weapons.
The dirk retains its original leather scabbard with brass throat and chape, including the integral frog stud for belt carry. Overall form and construction are consistent with Germanic / Central European manufacture, often associated with militia, customs officials, foresters, or junior officers.
This is an honest, untouched example showing proper age, wear, and patina.
