Antique Japanese Katana – 28 Inch Blade – Edo to Meiji Era
This is an authentic Japanese katana with a traditionally forged 28 inch (71 cm) blade in the classic shinogi-zukuri style. The blade has a graceful curvature and chu-kissaki (medium tip), with a visible hamon showing proper differential hardening.
The nakago (tang) has a deep, natural patina and two mekugi-ana, indicating it was remounted during its long service life. It has not been altered or cleaned, preserving its authenticity.
The sword is mounted in complete traditional koshirae:
Tsuka (handle): Black cotton ito over ray skin (samegawa), with menuki ornaments under the wrap.
Tsuba (guard): Iron with aged patina, simple and functional design.
Seppa (spacers): Brass, properly fitted.
Saya (scabbard): Black lacquer with sageo cord, in good condition with only minor age wear.
Condition: The blade is structurally solid with a clear hamon. There are two visible rust spots on the ji (blade surface), shown in the photos. These are cosmetic and do not affect the strength of the sword. A professional polish could restore the full beauty of the steel, but it remains collectible as is.
Era: Likely late Edo to Meiji period (19th century), with later remounts possible.
Blade Length (Nagasa): 28 inches / 71 cm.
This is a genuine antique samurai sword, not a reproduction. A fine addition for any serious Japanese arms collection, with both historical and display appeal.
